Raymon James Bowers papers, 1918-1919.

Letters written by Bowers to John Talman, Mary Palmes, and Solon Buck, staff members of the Minnesota Historical Society; photographs Bowers took during his World War I service in France; and picture postcards he collected at the same time. Bowers describes his trip to Camp Jackson, South Carolina, after his enlistment at St. Paul and a brief stay in St. Louis; camp life at Camp Jackson and at Camp Hancock, Georgia, where he was quartered after leaving Camp Jackson; his trip to France; his service and training there in army ordnance repair; the celebration of the armistice in Paris; and his impressions of the French people, towns, cities, and countryside; and his preparation for the trip home.
